I’ll be honest, as cute as squirrels are the grey ones should die. And everyone knows the red squirrels were happily frolicking in England when those pesky greys migrated from the US, stole the red’s food and shelter and now the red squirrel is an endangered specie.
But in Russia their black squirrel are murderous. Apparently, a group of black squirrels killed a dog for food. What might be interesting is if we were to release some hungry black squirrels on a pack of grey squirrels and see what would happen. It would be the squirrel’s very own Cold War.
I’m quite a fan of Lightroom; it’s slick gallery interface and editing features make it one of my favourite programs. Especially useful for importing my photos from my camera, and giving them the quick light adjustment. Lightroom 2 beta is being released for testing/feedback for a 30-day trial. If you’ve never used Lightroom I suggest you give it a go; it’s much better than iPhoto and I’ve yet to try Picasa who’s features are supposed to match, but it’s hardly pretty.

The newest environmental initiative to save the world is to turn your lights off for one hour, between 8pm and 9pm as part of Earth Hour. For me in England, it means I’m typing in the dark. I actually might do this more often, seeing as darkness is pretty kooky. And also the only other times my house is in darkness is during powercuts, and then you don’t have the luxury of the internet. Unfortunately there is one light on in my house, because my family weren’t so supportive of the idea. Luckily, they’re all in one room. I recommend signing up for Earth Hour for more tips on how to save the world.
Still very much in development, Songbird 0.5 has been released. For those who’ve never heard of Songbird it’s a media player and web browser rolled into one. It’s built off Firefox with full iPod/iTunes library support (as well as several other media devices) and with an ever expanding list of add-ons it’s truly customizable. It’s not quite stable enough to support by 10,000 song collection on my PC but it handles my 1,500-strong music library on my Macbook as good as iTunes does and I love how it automatically ’scans’ pages for MP3 links which can be downloaded and added to the library.
Songbird is available for Windows, Mac and Linux and it’s throughly worth a test run, though it may take a few more releases before it permanently replaces my iTunes and Safari combo.
