Thought I’d give y’all a round up of what’s going on in Joanna’s world:
I’m 99% sure I’m gonna be moving outta Karmamplify. I’m designing a new layout, new name…new everything. My own domain, own hosting; all that crap. Should be done in around three weeks, so get ready!
I’m out of school, technically. Have about 11 exams over the next few weeks before I’m done with compulsary education, and bring on the summer!
I watched the Eurovision…it was absolutely bloody awful. The quality of songs went down a lot (yes I know, there wasn’t really much ‘quality’ to begin with) but Bosnia & Herzegovina, Spain and Germany all beat the UK, and they were among the worst performance I’d ever had to sit through. I knew Andy Abrahama wouldn’t do that well. He went in optimistic (bless him) and I have to say, he didn’t fair half bad. It took him about a minute to warm up, and the back singers were a tad off-key but in the end, I thought he did well. Yet he came out last. Sure, political voting comes into it, but I also think there could’ve been some racism behind it. Anyway, I think he did the UK proud, so there’s nothing but love for Andy from me.
And for the record, Ani Lorak (Ukraine) should’ve won. She was by far the hottest diva there, and her song is awesome (she was horribly off-key at the start though).
So thoughts of the day: I love Andy Abraham and I hate exams. Bring on Karmamplify’s death, and the rebirth of something new…
Now that the emokidomfglikerawr scene has washed away, so have Panic! At The Disco’s former sound. A Fever You Could Sweat It Out sounded like an intelligent echo of Fall Out Boy’s ‘Under The Cork Tree’ so I was expecting Infinity On High’s energetic cousin. Thank f*ck it doesn’t. It’s very indie, pretty and odd.
P2P has really ruined remixes. When I want to see if a decent DJ has done a shockingly sexy mix of an already classic track I am swamped shoddy amateur mixes done with auto tools on Fruity Loops or ACID. But when mixes are done well there’s often better than the original song.
Here are my top favourites:
Carl B feat. Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane (Sean Tyas Remix)
8 minutes long but absolutely astounding. For a song that sounded great heavy and acoustic, it proves even better techno.
t.A.T.u. - Show Me Love (Sven Martin Remix)
One of the best t.A.T.u. remixes ever despite the intro sounding like a carbon copy of Closer by NIN.
Britney Spears - Piece of Me (MT Remix)
The best track from Blackout is made even better by this subtle yet superb remix.
Timbaland feat. One Republic - Apologize (DJ Ypsilonta Hard Dance Remix)
How this isn’t currently one of the most popular dancefloor fillers is beyond me.
Still very much in development, Songbird 0.5 has been released. For those who’ve never heard of Songbird it’s a media player and web browser rolled into one. It’s built off Firefox with full iPod/iTunes library support (as well as several other media devices) and with an ever expanding list of add-ons it’s truly customizable. It’s not quite stable enough to support by 10,000 song collection on my PC but it handles my 1,500-strong music library on my Macbook as good as iTunes does and I love how it automatically ’scans’ pages for MP3 links which can be downloaded and added to the library.
Songbird is available for Windows, Mac and Linux and it’s throughly worth a test run, though it may take a few more releases before it permanently replaces my iTunes and Safari combo.
I use Last.fm. I think it’s pretty nifty when I log in and see what I’ve been listening to. But due to my frequent habit of leaving my iTunes on mute oblivious to what song is playing it’s more of an entertaining experience than a factual one. My latest amusement was reading up on the artist information that pops up when you’re playing a song. Here are my annoying tidbits:
Fall Out Boy have more listens than The Beatles, The Manic Street Preachers and AC/DC combined.
Cheyenne Kimball is ’similar’ to Brie Larson and Hilary Duff. Poor Cheyenne.
Temposhark was tagged as ‘electrosexy.’ Love the portmanteau but what the fudge does it mean?
It has no Songbird support. I know there’s an add-on for it but it’s so ugly. Get the plugin please.
You have to login to see your charts. Some of are too lazy to login, why not just show them in the program?
I just put on the recommended radio. I got Orson followed by Son of Dork. I think the program knows what I’m saying about it…it must be evil.
Final Word: Stop listening to Fall Out Boy you emo fudgots.
